Periodontology
We take care of your gums
Periodontology is the specialty of dentistry dedicated to the study and treatment of diseases of the tissues supporting the teeth, alveolar bone, periodontal ligament and gum, which together form the periodontium. Periodontal Disease, historically known as "pyorrhea,” is a chronic disease that affects a large segment of the population. It requires specialized treatment and regular monitoring. Periodontics can also help in cases of Restorative Dentistry in which it is necessary to act on the tissues supporting the teeth in order to improve their condition and achieve a better functional and aesthetic result.
The main periodontal diseases are gingivitis and periodontitis.
The first refers to inflammation of the gums, connected with bleeding and redness caused by plaque. When gingivitis is strongly developed, leading to infection and loss of bone around the tooth, it signifies the beginning of periodontitis.
In our clinic, MD Alicia Herrero is the specialist in charge of these treatments, and the dental hygienist Carmen Martinez Pacheco is responsible for the Department of Prevention and Hygiene, which coordinates all Checkup and Maintenance appointments.
